Yes, do a search on google for dyneema rope and it will pop up in shopping results.

I've been looking about a bit, life would be so much easier if Amsteel blue was available over here. Thanks to turnerminators SK78 lead I've found these possible leads.

2.5 mm/ 7/64 inch Marlow excel d12 / breaking load (Bl) 569kgs / 1,254.43 lbs @ £1.35/mtr* (see edit)

Marlow Excel D12 3mm/ 3/32 Inch Bl 995 kgs/2 193.59 lbs @£2.16/mtr

Marlow Excel D12 4mm / 5/32 inch Bl 2056kgs/4 532.7 lbs @ £2.72/mtr

I'm wondering if the 2.5mm is going to be a bit on the possibly too lightweight side? (see edit)
569kgs / 1,254.43 lbs/ 89.6 stones using a 30% what were planning to do is going to drastically change things margin = 170.7kg / 376.3 / 26.8 stones

Am I being to cautious?, I cant off hand remember the recommended minimums for hanging (btw I'm a chunky 14.5 stones/ 203/lbs / 92kg)

Also not sure what margin is used when it comes to BL and how it measures up to other methods of describing strength.

*for curious bystanders,
1 metre (mtr) = aprx 3 1/3 foot,
10mm =1cm,
25.4mm = aprx 1inch
1000mm =100cm =1metre
1 metre = 1.0936133 yard : 1yard = 0.9144 metres
1kg = 2.20462262 pounds (1ltr of water) 1000kg = 1 tonne = 2 204.62262 lbs 1.1 US tons(?)

**caveat, don't blame me if you end on your deriere, I've done my best but I'd feel better if people did there own research when it comes to this stuff, (don't let that stop anyone weighing in with their 2p though, if you knew me ypu'd want to double check as well), hang your own hammock and all that...

EDIT:: 2.5mm is described as 8 strand here, (£2.25/mtr for 3mm or £1.90/mtr if bought online)

I understand that the formula to work out required b/s is 0.25x maximum static load. This is to account for 50% reduction in strenght form the knot, dynamic loading, creep avoidance and UV damage and abrasion. I believe we will give the rope more abrasion than on a boat, as we tie to rocks and sharp bark.
Using the formula from Just Jeffs camping page-
Strain on one hammock suspension side=
(0.5x body weight)
sin of angle

For yourself in an apparently perfect 30 deg. BB hang, this gives 92kg on each side.
Theoretically, this gives plenty of strength in the 2.5 mm.

I hang at 5-10o in my dd and I weigh 108kg.
This gives me a strain of 311 kg.
I will be erring on the side of caution and buying the 4mm stuff, Unless I get BB-it will then be the 3mm stuff.
Again, If anybody snaps thier suspension, blame my maths teacher. Its their fault, not mine.

Hi stonecold I bought some 4mm dyneema from here http://www.nauticalrope.co.uk/index....ex&cPath=19_38 arrived fast. I hung my hammock from it the other night. not sure if it is suitable but maybe Ok.

Thats some serious B/S rating
900 kgs for the 2mm!
The other widths are similar B/S to the 78
The 78 dyneema is supposed to have less creep than the 75 though.
The prices are good too.

I just rechecked and the above links form drop are for Marlow d12 made from sk75, so they should be equivalent to amsteel and ali's link too.
The Marlow D12 78 max is the sk78 stuff.
