    I wasn't hot, should I have been?

I got my HG Incubator Econ 20 this weekend and tried it for the first time last night. The low only got to 63F and from my understanding, I should have been too warm. I question this, because I am looking to get a 2nd UQ for my son and was going to go with the 40 to be more diverse and I actually doubt we go below 40, but if a 20 won't be too warm, I will go with another 20 to have the extra buffer. So here is where I am with hammocks

    1. Only about 10 days sleeping in a hammock outdoors.
    2. Used a 50F bag as a cover. I had it opened except for the bottom to act as a top quilt with a foot box.
    3. Was in a Chill Gorilla Oh Hell No bug net.
    4. Logic states (to me) that the overheating is more likely to occur with the top quilt being too hot, and not so much the UQ.
    5. Is my logic flawed, and do you think that the UQ was not correctly hanging underneath me?

    Thanks all

    Ed

    I have 3 underquilts, two are 20
Degrees and one is a zero degree. I have found that 20 degrees are fine as long as you aren't covered by a top quilt at higher temperatures (but still too cool to have nothing). If you are at 68 degrees and get into a 20 degree top quilt however you will quickly get too hot in my experience.

I would get a top quilt rated at 40 degrees for that reason. In my opinion the 20 degree offers the most versatility for underquilts.

A 20° under quilt is considered a 3 season by many vendors so no you shouldn't have been hot, warm definitely but not hot. I use my 3 season rated at 20° Warbonnet Lynx for temps from the 60's to the twenties and it works just fine.

"Warmth" is a such an individual thing and you also need to take into account what you've eaten, wind, humidity and personal experience, etc. A one time use event isn't a good data point. Try it several more times for best info. Additionally, a poor fit on your hammock will be much less noticeable in less than cold conditions. You could have had it adjusted very loosely which would allow for lots of air flow and heat loss.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Even when my bedroom is a warm 74°, that thick 10" mattress under me does just fine. Well maybe a little warm, but that's just because the A/C has a hard time cooling upstairs.

Thanks for the responses. It is good to know that I my one time use is for the most part to be expected and I will learn more as the temps drop this fall. I also like hearing that this will be good in the 20-40 range. Another 20 underquilt it is, for my son.
