    Question Polypropylene or Nylon

Which would be better protection from the elements, mainly rain? Poly or Nylon?

Most all cottage vendors are moving or have moved to SilPoly. Both work well but SilNylon stretches when wet and holds some moisture so SilPoly is your best bet.

I don't think one is better. They both have different advantages and disadvantages. I prefer my silnylon tarps. I have never noticed a great amount of stretch.

I would say silpoy is low stretch easy to work with and sew, but very weak tear resistance, silnylon is very strong and long lasting but difficult to sew and stretches when wet.

They will both do the job. The differences are as mentioned.

FYI, "silpoly" is made from polyester, not polypropylene. Very different materials.

    Sorry, I'm a material engineer
