Wink ViDEO: Setting up Hammock & Tarp on Ground

If you have to go to ground in your hammock here is how to get it done. Every hammock will be a bit of a different pitch but this the basics. In this video I am using my Dutchware Chameleon.
Trying to use gear already in my pack to get me through a night.
Of course having a nice camping pad would be the most comfortable.

Thanks. Learned it from hammock pioneer Ed Speer.

Thanks much for this help Shug. I'm leaving on a trip through the Presidential Range in New Hampshire. We'll be staying in AMC huts on the mountains but in campgrounds on either end of the trip.

I'm not sure of hanging capability in the campgrounds but had decided to take my hammock anyway. Your technique will help me a lot if I can't find trees to use. After looking at how you hang your tarp, I know I'd have messed up the tarp hang. I usually use a continuous ridge line for my tarp but will take my separate lines to duplicate how you did it. The idea of tightening the ridgeline with a mini biner is a good one. Thanks.

Incidentally I've treated my clothing with permethrin as you suggested. Wouldn't have known to do that without your video. Thanks again.

Glad you got some insight from it!

But at least still camping and still in the woods. Makes one appreciate the sweet feel of the hang!

Always love the videos. This was a great reminder that all is not lost when there is not an option to hang the hammock.

+1, excellent point. I just hope if I there's a chance I'd have to go to ground that I planned ahead and brought my pad. But knowing me I would have forgotten it.

No, that's great info. Especially pitching a tarp on the ground, a rough technique to master. Not quite the learning curve of playing the drums but close. You're always busting out some new skill lol.
