Hey guys,
The bug has bit and I'm running a high grade DIY fever!!! I recently built my first bug-net and a couple stuffsacks which went better than expected. Last piece I need is a tarp however, other than using silpoly and some rough sketches and blueprints I have laying around on some bar napkins, I don't have a clue as to what I'm doing.
I do most my camping in the Southeast with the majority of my camping done in Northern/Central Florida. Needless to say rains can get pretty wild around here . To date I've been able to plan around bad weather and I (fingers crossed) haven't been rained out. But one could only get lucky so many times.
I'm currently using a slightly modified ENO Doublenest but I have some 1.6 HyperD on the way with an 11 ft blueprint on mind. So (I think) I know I need nearly a foot extra on each side to make sure I stay dry over night. Additionally, I want roughly a 6ish(ideally +)ft wide spread at the base. So I'm thinking I need something like 12ft in length so that after hemming its still around 11ft which would easily cover the hammock even at around 80% its length and about 8ft in width. And that's about all I really got....
So my biggest questions are, what other measurements should I really be concerned about or at least take into account? Does Sil-Net need to go sprayed on the whole tarp or just the seems? If I'm trying to keep everything as small and compact as possible, is it possible to make the tie outs out of narrower gross-grain, maybe an inch at the widest?(I get a lot of wind So I'm a little worried about going narrow just want to hear some thoughts) Lastly, anyone have blueprints they'd like to share with me?
Thanks for any help, it's greatly appreciated!!!!
