UQ first definitely. I've had my hammock for two years, still just have an UQ and use an unzipped rectangular sleeping bag like a TQ (you could even just use a blanket). Not sure I'll ever fork out $$ for a proper TQ.

Also, you'll be surprised how quickly you may need an UQ. Anything below about 70 degrees at night and my backside feels a bit breezy without it.

WOOKI is very nice and perfect for your BB. However since you are a NEW HANGER and you want to know what to purchase next, a TQ or UQ? Which type.of quilt is a whole new discussion.

As a person becomes involved with a new interest, often times their choice of equipment becomes very selective. The Wooki only works on some hammocks. Plus Wooki's are a dedicated lay, either left or right. I learned over time I am Left Lay, so I needed a Left Lay Wooki, which came with an up charge.

Anyway a UQ, makes life very comfortable. Cold, damp rise, keeping the backside comfortable keeps all of you comfortable. you will find it easy to wing a TQ.

In hot sticky conditions, I use my UQ with a cotton TQ liner as cover.

I vote that you get your hammock and test it out with a sleeping pad first. Am I correctly reading that you have a double layer Warbonnet coming in? I found that hammock to be very comfortable with a pad and found making adjustments to the underquilt very difficult because in only opens on one side (unless you take the net off.) Hammocks seem to be a very personal thing: don't assume that what is best for the majority will be best for you! Also, your needs will change over time. Now I mostly use a lighter Dutch .5 Wit hammock for hiking and prefer an UQ on that hammock.

Thanks for all the input. I'm glad I brought my question here.

As I've pretty much overhauled my gear loadout about 3 times in the last 4 years, I don't have a problem testing out a UQ. If it doesn't work out for me, I know I'll be able to sell it. Reason why I want to get it now is because of the long manufacturing times; I'll have time to reorder if necessary.

As with the majority of recommendations above... The UQ is definitely the better first choice...

As to "long manufacturing times"... Not so at Jacks R Better... All quilts are In Stock for immediate shipping.
