    August 21, 2017 - Solar eclipse

Hey guys, just curious if any of you guys are planning any trips to see the solar eclipse. If so, where you guys planning on watching? How long have you been looking forward to it? Or is this your first time hearing about it?

Based on logistics, the crew and myself will be at Hawn SP in Missouri. Closest place with the longest duration of totality. Doubtful I'm the only one who has been waiting for this for over a year, haha.

    Cheers.

Yea it's been covered several times and there are a lot of trips planned on sites like the hiking meetup groups and the like. It's going to be a site to see if you can get right in the path.

Lucky me - I plan on watching it from my yard. Supposed to be ~2 minutes of totality here.

I just called Hawn SP for reservations including electricity and they're all booked. Walk-In sites are available, no electricity though.

We're going that direction, my husband says it's all or nothing, meaning 100% eclipse or we'll stay home. This is huge for him and I've not seen him so excited in a long time.

I may call again, but it would be lucky to get a spot. All MO campgrounds in the area are booked.

I called this morning and they told me that the camp grounds are full, however the backpacking camps are first come, first serve. You can camp anywhere along the trail as long as you don't have more the 8 people in your group. We are hoping to get one of the sites but if worst comes to worst, there are a bunch of places on the north loop that would work.

I could relate to him, completely. I have always wanted to see an eclipse, and now this one is in my backyard (about 75 miles). I hope you guys find a good place. This is going to be one for the books!

We'll figure out something. Too bad it will be the dog days of summer, that 2 minute and 40 seconds of shade won't compensate for hours of sun and heat. Millions of people are expected at prime spots, and some sites have been booked since 2013. Come to find out.

Did I ever tell you about Galveston friends who got caught up in the exodus of traffic outrunning a hurricane a few years ago?...they car camped on 1-45 along with thousands of new friends.

We can view it 84% from home or 91% at our daughter's, so that's not too shabby. Still! Who knows, we might see you there.

I've got my place picked out on the Cherohala Skyway where it should be cool. Hopefully it will not be that crowded.

I'm fortunate that I live in Perryville MO, so my front yard is the perfect place to view it from!

I live about two hours south of the 100% track, so the wife and I are planning to drive up, stop at one of the small Missouri towns for lunch, and then view the eclipse from a park or ballfield. We'll have our hammocks with us in case the area we find is conducive to hanging while we wait for the main event. Don't forget to bring something like THIS with you!
