With the temperatures we are having in Central Illinois right now, I find myself daydreaming about freezing cold temps up at Da Shack: Warm fire, more food than we could possibly eat, plenty of beverages, and a fantastic hike around the property and on the Ice Age trail.

After Saturday's breakfast, feel free to join me hiking the New Hope- Iola Ski segment. I'll drive up to the Northern point of the segment by the New Hope Pines State Natural Area and hike back to Da Shack (guessing that is about 4 miles) and hoping someone can drive me back to get my car.

After lunch, I plan to do an out and back to the Iola Winter Sports Club to finish the segment. I'm guessing that will be around 3 miles.

Tumbleweed - if you have any advice about the segment, holler away!

Wonderful hiking opportunity, broken into two parts with lunch at Da Shack breaking up the hike. Car shuttle is no problem. I will see to it that we have vehicles. We can bypass the road walk section found on some maps by just hiking from Da Shack, going East to pick up the trail, go to the ski jump, and then either reverse course back to Da Shack, or road walk, or have a vehicle / vehicles at the Winter Sports parking lot to get back for a threzees snack waiting for us at Da Shack...
    I am so ready

GREAT NEWS... The segment that eliminates the road walk is DONE... Some of you helped with trail work southwest of da shack. Thanks for your efforts. Today we completed the last 200 foot part. We are now "good to go" on the Ice Age trail without the road walk. New maps will be forthcoming. Fine work grinds slowly.

Be aware that there is a Wisconsin Antlerless Deer Gun Season going on that weekend. I do not anticipate any issues, but Mrs.T says that I should comment on it. You might consider some blaze orange / bright yellow if you have it.
