VA, Grayson Highlands Fall Festival Hang, Sept

Bad news folks. We did not get the group site for the Grayson Fall Festival hang this year. Unfortunately, we have no place to gather as a group. Annual Hang 7 is herewith cancelled unless the park has a cancellation for the site. This does not prevent those who wish to hike and camp on the AT from doing so. Just not a campground event.

That"s a bummer Porter, any chance of having the hang on the French Board River? Hot Springs?

    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

Thanks for reminding me about Hot Springs. Always a good thing to hang at Hot Springs. Don't see any reason not to give it a whirl. 3rd weekend of Sept seems to have been the regular time frame for that. Got to have a hang somewhere in the fall.

That is a bummer . One can still stay in the campground, just have to pay for a site. I would suggest reserving it in advance because it is a popular weekend.

Got that right Kent. The hosts didn't do their due diligence - forgot to check with park staff earlier in the year. Our apologies.
Camping on the AT and paying for a campground site are still options if anyone wants to attend the festival. Also, it is still a good day trip if you have not been, or even if you have been before.

Was that a hanging participle, or a split infinitive I just used??????????????????

I was just up (through) there after the Hootenany Hang. parked in Damascus and got a shuttle to Massie gap and walked back on the AT. gorgeous... magical... it rained a lot...

got me some pictures of ponies and one 4pt buck in velvet that had absolutely no fear of me. the doe he was with was a little more cautious though...

    so what's the fall-back plan?..

That doesn't sound like a bad idea if one wants to pay for a site but how much i would be willing to pay for a site if people would come and camp there at that site
Its a good day to be out in the woods no matter the weather.Mist One..
