Trail slug, what hammock is that? Looks like it has a side car which is very cool. Sorry to hijack the thread.

No worries Dutch. It's the Warbonnet Ridgerunnet bridge hammock.

Looks like its the way the net is attached to the side and not overhead that makes it look that way, Dutch. Optical illusion of sorts, because I know you know what a RR looks like.
About the sag, I'm not an engineer either, but if the 2' underside drop is not an issue (which I understand), I'm wondering what would happen with the top bar if the connection failed there? I might rather have that connection towards the foot end just in case.

I bought one and just never used it. All the pipe and kit are sitting in the shed. I might as well sell it. The pipe, scrap. $160 impulse buy
I'm thinking of making a more portable set of pieces too. We all know multiple smaller pieces for legs and ridge pole will make it "weaker". Has anybody used the conduit splice similar to the one at this link?: http://coloradometalworx.com/greenho...plice-fitting/
I would think using that with one of these 1" conduit tubing splicers (4th row down and 5th item to the right) at the following link over the top of it would be quite stable: http://tarps.com/chrome2.htm
Note, I am not talking about packable as I know these splicing devices would add weight; but, it would sure make the setup more compact to fit in a bag and a trunk. Who knows, maybe the splice in the first link would work great. Even the ones manufactured by Tato gear might work quite well, I would just have more confidence if secured outside the joint too.
Another question. I've just been reviewing Cheryl's "No Ground" Trekking and Car Camp HD systems and I've been wondering if anybody has tried one side of the TATO Gear Stand on one end with the other end being tied to a tree. With the removal of the ridge pole one would probably need to guy out the single TATO Gear stand. Has anybody tried that?
With respect to that "2 ft fall" - I wouldn't be worried about the fall to the ground, I'd be worried about want's coming next falling on top of me. Recall any Road Runner cartoon you've ever seen. My Pipe Stand has heavier pipe - so it is theoretically stronger - but also more of a "KA-Bang" if it came down.
But I like the portability, and lighter weight of the TATO stand. Getting 12 ft for a GE hammock is not much of a problem but I'd want about a 15 ft span for the WBRR.
