    Replacement suspension

I left my Dyneema whoopie hook suspension on a shade structure in Catalina last week.

Luckily I had some mule tape in my pack for the last two nights, but now I'm looking for a replacement suspension. I carry the mule tape for when I find really wide or narrow tree spacing, our when I'm using an exceedingly large tree. At least one of these conditions seems to occur regularly.

I don't recall what size huggers I had, but a little longer it's better. Otherwise I'm looking for just the right balance of light weight and adjustability.

With that in mind I ventured back over to Dutchware gear. Still no chameleon for sale! Lots more options for huggers, etc these days. What's your favorite and/or recommendation for me?

    Thanks in advance,
    Slbear

I would take a look at the dyneema poly straps. I like them amit and think they are a good blend of weight and durability. That being said I have the new blue dyneema on order....we'll see how that goes.

Slbear, Catalina Island? You lucky dog. Loss of straps would prompt me to consider a suspension that stays stuck together-to your hammock.
Mauiarcher, dyneema poly straps for use with hardware? And new blue dyneema for knots? I have ordered new blue dyneema and will try knots for ease of use--holding power (non slip) and easy to untie ( nonjamming )

    Catalina Island wow!

I originally had whoopies on the hammock - I must have turned that around when I got the hooks. I have a few hammocks, more than I have suspensions, so that was another reason.

So what are you guys going to do with the blue Dyneema straps or huggers? I have Dutch Clips, but left them on some Warbonnet straps (attached as you suggest). Good thing I didn't take those to the island. Would they work on the blue Dyneema?. They are great when you need to move the straps but in general unnecessary.

I was thinking blue Dyneema with sewn on Dutch clips, new whoopie hooks, and new loops to boot, but had a little sticker shock. Maybe blue Dyneema with whoopie hooks knotted on as before (price tag as a reminder) or the Dyneema with just mule tape. Like I said, too many options.

And Yes, it was Catalina Island. A great trip. I'll do a more complete report. Here's a tease...

    Beautiful island vistas.
I think dyneema poly straps work with hardware.
And maybe new dyneema blue with black racing stripes is for knots and Dutch Clips--I've got some on order and want to try a few knots--hope they work great.

The poly dyneema straps work with hardware, though I've heard some reports that they sometimes slip or (more likely) stretch a little bit.

Long kevlar straps, or long dyneema 2.0 looks great if you're OK with either a becket hitch or marlinspike. They don't work with buckles, but they are ridiculously light.
