I forgot one when I first started hamping. It had a Dutch Clip on it too. I know you're thinking "how do you forget one strap"? One acronym is how... ADHD. You see, in my head I was 3 minutes down the trail but in reality I hadn't gotten around to packing that last item, which was the one Dutched strap.

I understand that the straps are probably the most forgotten item with hammocks, I'm sure this won't be the last set I lose. How many have you left behind?
I've never left a set behind because they are always connected to my hammock I'm very forgetful so this is one way not to loose them.

I know I am going to lose them sometime. I do have a vinyl bag I store the straps in that I hope I will notice is still empty before I leave.

Usually OCD with remembering the fundamental gear, but once forgot about 30ft of newly purchased cord that I'd used to tie back a branch that was in the way of an otherwise perfect hang position.

Hiked back next weekend to recover it (spending way more in fuel and time than the cord cost in the first place)

LOL. My first summer camping, I painted the tops of my stakes orange so that I wouldn't loose them...then fall rolled around! I don't think I've ever permanently lost an item, but I sure spent time trying to find various things! Blue is probably a great idea. I might go for a 2 tone paint job...Blue and bright yellow?

Another piece of kit that instantly goes into stealth mode when put down is my titanium spork.

Solved this by painting a strip of the mid point with my wife's expensive pink nail varnish.

That didn't go down too well!

LOL. I bet not! I solved that issue with a loop of yellow zing-it through the whole in the handle. Handy and hard to lose.

One thing I always do is take my straps down when I unhook my hammock.....drape the strap around my neck....then I never forget the straps and never have.
You can see in the video below between 1:05 and 2:00 in.

I haven't forgotten anything yet, but I have certainly misplaced a few things in the campsite as they blend it. namely the bugnet ridgeline that is loose in the stuff sack. done 4 camps with it and each time I take that out, I am guaranteed to be searching for the ridgline string that invariable fell out and got buried in plain site in the leaves.

I guess it's all about getting into a routine. I spent the summer of 2010, 5 months on the road, touring the country on a bicycle and never left anything of any importance behind, I had a daily routine that I just need to adjust and get back into with hammocks. Thanks for all the input.
I am really enjoying all the neat innovations of hammock camping and my hammock supply has grown to 3 now. the $15 netted one I started with, my Hammock Bliss No-Seeum-No More, that is my main camper and a Amazon double nest I picked up just to throw in the car to relax in. So far I've made a pair of whoopie slings for the netted one and just yesterday I made a Amsteel structural, fixed length ridgeline for the doublenest. Who knew there would be a math test?
