    Greetings from the Pacific Northwest!

Just finished my first backpack trip with the hammock... and I'm hooked. Hiked a high ridge in the Southwest Washington Blue mountains where the overnight temps dropped into the mid-30's. I was comfortable and cozy, although I did sleep in my fleece and down jacket, and out of the wind. Great trip with sun, rain, hail, and even a tiny bit of snow.

Welcome to the forum. Welcome to the sickness that is hammocking.
“The word hammockable (Meaning: two trees that are the perfect distance apart between which a hammock can be hung) is not in the dictionary, but it should be.”

Welcome to the madness from a fellow Spokanite! let me know if you need any help tweaking the sleep system but it looks like you're off to a great start. How long was the drive down there? I'm always in the market for new weekend destinations.

Not quite in the Wilderness area... my plan was to travel Grizzly Bear Ridge to the Wenaha and return via Slick Ear creek but the roads were blocked by snow. I found the Middle Point ridge trail by accident just inside the Nat. Forest border on the North Touchet road. Great trail if you don't mind a long climb.

I think it was around 3 hours by the time you get to the Umatilla forest border. Hit Dayton and take a left on 4th.
I will say that it's one of my favorite drives once you get past Colfax. Nothing like an early morning drive through the wheatlands!

Greetings from Arizona. Looking to hit 110+ later this week, hard to wrap my mind around 30 degree temperatures.
You are wise to camp out of the wind. So many people overlook the virtues of camping lower in a sheltered spot.
Hammock backpacking is the ticket. I have to bite the bullet when I hike in the Grand Canyon and the ground is
the only option, but other factors make it just fine.
