Oh heck yes there are! Had a great group hang in March in the Cleveland National Forest with something like 50 local hangers. Good times were had by all. There out there, try to get to a group event or have your own. "Build it and they will come" . Riverside county myself.

Rick...
If you use Facebook try searching for "SoCal hangers". We have a group there. It is the same group Rick is referring to.
thanks it would be nice to meet like minded

I was in Catalina this week and saw hammocks in many campsites. Even Parsons Landing, on the beach with just a post and rock to hang from!
I'm here in San Diego and thinking about an overnight on July 10th. San Jacinto or Palomar Mountain or even Henninger Flats maybe?
It will be a last minute decision for me, but I think if we start posting our ideas we might have more (albeit less elaborately planned) SoCal events.

Pomona hanger here, planning a solo trip up to mount Baldy this weekend.
Mount Baldy got it's name because it's pretty much void of vegetation, it's been quite a few years since my last visit. A nice hike but not hammock friendly.

Have a nice trip wherever you go.
