So, the wife and I have been using a cheap 12' x 16' poly tarp from the hardware store when we hang tandem. It has the standard metal grommets. I noticed after last weekend's hang that the grommets on the ridgelines had started to pull out. It was shockingly easy to pull them out the rest of the way, resulting in this hole at each end:

I decided to see if sewing on a square folded-over reinforcing section of pack-cloth leftover from my hex tarp project, some 1" grosgrain and a 1" Beastie D ring would work. It feels really strong. I think it will extend the life of this cheap tarp a while anyhow.
