    I use a modified flat felled seam, that I made up myself, on our tarps that is less prone to stitch elongation than the traditional flat felled seam and top stitched french seam.     Yes I did and there is some elongation when pulled very hard but minimal compared to other seams, though your lapped seam should be relatively good. The key is to get the needle going through at least 4 layers of material on both sides.

    I posted up some instructions on how we do our tarp ridgelines on our Facebook page, I will put them on our website as well soon. This method has the stitching passing through at least 6 layers of fabric.
