I've been kicking this idea around for a wall tent style tarp and thought I'd see what others think about it.
What if you hung your tarp high and wide and attached a skirt to the ground on all four sides? The tarp roof would need to be water proof but the sides could be netting or light ripstop. My thoughts are you would get a tarp you can stand under with wind water protections. You'd have to slit the ends for the hammock ropes and either Velcro them for an adjustment or overlap the fabric. The only added weight would be the skirting sides and ends but at 1oz per yard it couldn't add that much weight.
And since we are doing what if... What if... you were to take it further and inserted extra fabric on the side to add a tent pole arch to dome a side entry leaning out to make it look something like:

The domed entry could be made by adding a triangle piece to the tarp and channeling the outside edge.

I've used up to a 16ft Kelty to make a winter style tarp and yes it is 4.5lbs but it also covers you to the ground and you can stand up in it. I think this wall tent could be made closer to 2.5lbs and would be very comfortable and well protected.
If you've seen any of my other posts I'm working on a 5.5 ft hammock that can be hung side by side and also stacked. So the dream is to have a family of 4 on two trees using a single 2lb shelter. That's when the extra tarp weight is manageable when you're covering multiple people. Also with the short hangs on the hammocks the shelter would only have to be 10 feet long.
Let me know what your think or if you know of any out there!
