Quickest guyline ?

I'm looking to have quick deployment with my guylines!

What's everyone else doing for a quick method ?

Also, is it worth having self tensioning lines ?

I simply tie the line to my tie outs on the hammock, push the stake into the ground, and then pull the reflective guy line taught and wrap it tight twice around the stake and tie a slipery half hitch to hold it in place. For SilPoly tarps I've never needed to use self tensioning lines.

I figure 8 wrap mine. Ridgeline rests in snakeskin ends.
I truly find self tensioners useful.

Self tensioning = quick.

I put a shock cord rubber band between the tarp d ring and some regular cord. I have the regular cord pre tied with an adjustable sliding not.

All I do at camp time is pull the line out and drive the stake in at the same time. Done.

I currently use Dutch's tarp fleaz for my guy lines. They attach to the tie outs via shock cord that I larks head on. Easy peazy. The line itself is attached to my stakes. I unfurl the line wrapped on my stake, hook it onto the fleaz, adjust and cinch. I am, however considering switching to tarp worms or something so the lines are attached to my tarp. I don't think one way is better than another, it's just preference. If you use a tarp skin (snake skin) of some sort, and your lines are attached to the tarp, you may not need to gather and secure the lines. Just remove from the stake and slide your skins on. I haven't tried this yet, but that's my thinking for switching to a system where my lines are on the tarp instead of the stakes. Not to mention, if I lose a stake I'm kinda stuck. Self tensioners are awesome IMO. I camp in cold weather more than warm so being able to guy out my tarp without needing the dexterity to tie knots is key. PLus they are typically faster and easier which is nice when setting up in the rain.

@TrailSlug, I currently tie do the same with the half hitch but want something quicker. Why don't you need self tensioning lines with SilPoly tarps ?

I haven't tried the worms yet. I did get a chance to play with them on someones tarp at the MAHHA in April. It's a slick system and very easy. easier than my current fleaz system. I have a Cuben tarp on the way and the tarp worms are going to be my system on that one.

I use 1.5 mm Z-line from Z-packs as guylines. I keep the line attached to the tarp tie-outs and roll them up in the tarp inside tarp sleeves. I loop guyline around stake then back through D-ring for a 3:1 mechanical advantage and tie a taut-line hitch. If hitch is remains in line when rolled in tarp, you can simply plant your stake, slide the taut-line hitch and you are done.

I use 1.75 mm Lash-it on Stingerz for my non-continuos ridgeline but, did not like this for tie-outs. I experimented with Lawson Glow wire for tie outs but, it seems more clumsy to handle than the Z-line.

Personally, I have never found a self-tensioning scheme I prefer over the simple tattling hitch. I do prefer shock cord for my doors. If, I close the doors the shock cord functions like a spring on a screen door; I slip in and the door closes behind me.

I had made a set of self tensioners JRB style. Used them for a few outings and then switched to the Tarp Works. I leave them on the tarp with guy lines attached and fig8 them before stuffing the whole setup in a noseeum double ended sack.

I use them on my MamaJamba with zingi, on my daytarp with micro cord and on my tarp doors with shock cord only. Works perfect on all.

I prefer the tarp worms over hook worms.

Stakes go in a roll with tree straps and such.
