Hello all, new to hanging, I like this idea as I'm short legged and am having to reach high to lash off. I've figured the rappel rings to have a 1.5 in ID but the carabiners, I haven't been able to determine which ones will not crimp up, or pinch my 2" tree huggers. How big or what size, so to speak. Can someone advise? ... Thanks

Right now my Hammocktent Gamma is set up with a single rap ring on each side. I use a slippery girth hitch in 1" nylon tree straps around the rap ring and have not had any slippage. Very easy to undo also. I have also hooked an additional rap ring at the carabiner that is at the tree (using carabiners instead of putting the tree strap through the sewn loop. This makes a simple pulley system for one side and I can reef the SRL tight if needed, e.g. on low hangs where I need a taut ridge line for hammock height.

All in all I prefer the DH cinch buckles or WB pentagonal buckles as they are simple, small, can be cinched up tight, and can be undone easy enough. I've used Beckets and marlin spikes, but I don't really care for how they wrinkle up my 1" nylon or kevlar tree straps.

Nylon? Or is that poly or UHMWPE of some sort? 1" nylon is going to be very stretchy vs poly.

As for the wrinkles and scrunching of the straps, with Venom (and Myerstech, both UHMWPE) it is a losing battle so I just pretend they are cords and treat them as such, flattening out only the section that goes around the tree.

May I chime in and ask how people prefer rap rings compared to swapping the cords out for cinch straps?

Yes, you can see how I've used them in my setup video:

I've decided to double up on carabiners instead of the rappel rings. These are the black diamond miniwires, so pretty lightweight.
