Question Video: I feel something is wrong with my hang

So I took a backpacking trip this past Memorial Day weekend and found 2 trees about 15-16' apart to hang. I made a video and something just doesn't feel right - is the hang angle off? Do my tree straps need to be higher? Does the head end (left) need to be lower? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated.

Video embedding didn't seem to work. Try again only inserting "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OxJOgwZfHw"

After a quick look, I can tell the suspension (hammock straps) are much too low. At that angle, I'm guessing your ridgeline was tighter than a piano string. You want to shoot for a 30° angle on those straps; from the video they look nearly parallel with the ground. Mess around with the calculator to really nail it: https://theultimatehang.com/hammock-hang-calculator

That's what I was thinking too and the ridgeline was super tight. It's been awhile since I've hung and boy, do you forget a lot of things, such as proper height and distance and the relationship. And after hiking all day, my mind wasn't working properly and I just wanted my beer and to catch the sunset.

    NICE spot!
Setting up on a slope is tricky, since your perception of "level" is askew.
You can use your transparent water bottle (I see one leaning against your tree), as a pseudo-level. After set-up, hold up the bottle, lengthwise, and peer thru the bottle, the water will always be level. Check your hammock and adjust accordingly. Half-full water bottle works best.

Hammocks are infinitely adjustable to YOUR fit. IF it don't feel right, adjust.

You're right, that's a good trick! This hilly spot was the only spot not covered in snow within a mile or so. I slept ok, but my feet were nearly at the end of the hammock when I woke up. So head end too high right?

Your head end is to the left in the video, yes.
Either lower the head or raise the foot end.
Gravity will push you towards the low side. To compensate, since our bodies are heavier on one end..always try for head end lower.

Nobody gets it right the first time, even veteran hammockers. Always take a few test sits and lay-downs after set-up. Height, angle, tautness, and personal preference all come into play. Tweak as needed. Over time, you'll find YOUR sweet spot and set-up will become quicker and easier.

PS-No way a tent would work there!

Hahahahaha-that was funny, to me-thanks gargoyle!
Natemeister, sometimes I get out of practice too--and even set up with some steps out of sequence--then I get to set up again!
