    Lightweight pad

I am trying to reduce my base weight. I have an underquilt, but honestly I like a pad better. I like a little extra padding and a sleeping pad provides that wher an underwuilt doesnt. I am currently using a 15 year old Thermarest that weighs about 3.5 lbs. I have tried a Walmart foam pad and it's to ridged. My Thermarest is by far the most comfortable option. Is there anything out there that weighs less that would be as comfortable?

You could try something like this. Or a thermarest X therm type.

Agreed. I reviewed one here on HF...

Or, if you really want to reduce your base weight, go for one of the Klymit rectangular ground pads. They work in a hammock and will help you shave a few additional ounces.

All of the Klymit insulated pads have a 4.4 R-value, but you may want to supplement them when you get well below freezing.

For ultra light and high-ish r value, it is hard to beat a woman's (higher r value) Xlite. I think they weigh in right around 12oz. You will have to determine comfort and weather the width and length will work for you. If you stick with pads, I would suggest looking into a pump sack if you are not yet familiar. I would guess your 3.5# thermarest may be self inflating at that weight.

    Good luck.
