    Springtime UQ options?

    Hi HammockForums!

I'm new to hammocking, and live in a climate where it gets hot and humid in summer. That said, I am a cold sleeper, so I am looking for a light possibly synthetic UQ that won't break the bank that I can take with me for springtime overnights.

I've thought about the HammockGear Phoenix but even that seems like overkill. Looking for a temp rating of about 50. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks and happy Friday!

For price point and good performance in humid weather, I'd say you're looking at an Apex Climashield quilt. I live just north of you and have been very happy with my Climashield 3.6 UQ that I DIY'ed. Technically, it's rated to 40F, but it's comfortable to me to 45F. I think it would work well for a cold sleeper down to 50F. It's really light. An UQ is fairly easy to DIY, but if you're not interested in that, there are a number of vendors on here that will make a CS 3.6 UQ for you.

+1 on the jarbridge. It was my first UQ and I still use it on fire assignments.

Agreed. Jarbidge or DIY equivalent with CS 3.6 (or even CS 2.5) insulation.

Thanks all, I'm a DIY nightmare, so I will look into Jarbridge-- I think even the 1 season might be more than I need, so I'd be curious to get a price from someone who could make a CS 2.5 (which is less fill, correct? Sorry, new to this!)-- Can anyone direct me to such an individual? Or if Arrowhead does any custom work I'd love a quote from them, too.

I would be leery about trying to order a custom item from AHE.

The Jarbidge is an excellent UQ option and a great value, but the one time I inquired at AHE about custom work I was bluntly turned away.

Hopefully a JR 1S in one of the nine colors will work for you with venting.

I think you're a little too focused to expected temps vs rating. There's the 10 degree factor (as cushion) and if you're a cold sleeper, then either the 1S Jarbridge or HG Econ 40 will get you to the point where you don't need one. These are by far the most economical quilts. I even use the 3S Jarbridge up to low 60s without issue. You can get away with doing that more for an UQ as opposed to a TQ.

The other option might be to get a 2QZQ underquilt protector that will hold a pad and cut some reflectix to make a very light (albeit bulky) pad that will cut wind and keep you from getting CBS at warm temps.
