Why not just pick up a Yukon Outfitters Walkabout tarp. It's an 11 foot Ridgeline diamond shape and weighs under 16 ounces. You can pick them up for 25 bucks

Outdoor Vitals just came out with a diamond and hex tarp, both offered in two different weights. The prices seem good.

You thought of DIY? It would be fairly cheap to do, and you'd get exactly what you want or need. Kitsapcowboy has a simple tutorial on a tarp like what your describing.
Where the trail ends the adventure begins!
Tarps are pretty easy to stitch together. If you have a wife/mother/grandmother who knows her way around a sewing machine, they could do it for you, or, better yet, even teach you to do it yourself!
