Nothing works fully against midges other than a head net. I don't bother with Scotland in summer, hate 'em

I'm planning a Lands End to John O Groats bike ride next year. I was planning for June but because of concern about midges I'm thinking of changing to April (May isn't possible for me). Has anyone used permethrin around midges? I've seen Scotty's post above but I don't know if his statement is based on actual experience or not. Permethrin has worked on everything in my neck of the woods (western NC) and my hope it that it will work with midges. If not I don't want to camp because without a lot of work and/or purchases I won't be able to midge proof my set up.

Many thanks in advance for anyone who shares their experience.
