Sleeping bag to big for the hammock

If I use my sleeping bag as a quilt it's way too big, I'm waiting for my Mamba for more comfort. (Current sleeping bag birdland glacier).

How do you use a sleeping bag as a quilt in a hammock?

Shug's video is actually what I watched before my first hammock trip. I used a Kelty 20 degree sleeping bag as my quilt and a therma-rest closed cell pad under me. It definitely works but like many people will tell you, you have to constantly "chase" your pad.

I have a 35* rectangular sleeping bag. I zip the foot end up a ways to for a foot box, and wrap the unzipped part of the sleeping bag around me as a quilt. If it's warm that I have to vent, I have had trouble keeping the sleeping bag in the hammock with me. Now that it's warming up, I'm happy that I won't be needing the sleeping bag so much.

I started off hammock camping using a rectangular Kelty 35* down sleeping bag and a DIY PLUQ. I also tried a WM 15* mummy bag, but it was too warm for any trip I had planned. Both of them were worn as a blanket/quilt. It's crazy to try and climb into a sleeping bag in your hammock. I soon got a 30* TQ.

I still have those sleeping bags, but have no use for them, even on the ground.

all but one of my sleeping bags are 3/4 zip bags. i simply unzip as far as they'll go and the remainder of the bag that doesn't unzip is a ready made foot box. tuck my feet in and pull it up . same as a top quilt. The one that does unzip all the way is a 50 degree rated synthetic from REI. I would unzip it completely and simply use it as a blanket. I have quilts now though and they're awesome.

I use mine as a pod. I cut a hole in the bottom of it and slipped the hammock through it. It acts as both top-quilt and underquilt. It's very warm in the cold because the whole system is pretty well sealed, while keeping the zipper on top makes adjustments easy for ventilation when it's warm.
