How to repair rip in Superfly.

Hi all you DIY Gods and Goddesses (I wish I could sew and was not visually spatially challenged)!

I got a rip in the top of my Superfly tarp, a fairly good sized maybe an inch or so near the Ridgeline perpendicular to it. (tent stake popped out and did the damage I think). It is definitely Silnylon and I think it is 30D. How should I fix it? I went to the Warbonnet website and they have patch kits, but don't have the green color in the Silnylon. They have it in the Silpoly. Can I use the Silpoly? Is there a place locally that I might be able to get the same material and patch stuff so I don't have to wait for the patch stuff to be delivered.

Thanks in advance for your sage advice.

I got a massive hole in my winter tarp and I patched it with tenacious tape and then I sewed a big circle of fabric over the tear. This shifts the strain away from the tear. I then seam sealed it.

My repair has been holding up really well, even on high wind and driving rain.

I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

Email Warbonnet, I would bet they have some patches of the correct material. Their customer service is awesome!

+1, I had a small tear in mine right at the ridgeline strip and parallel to it. I emailed Warbonnet asking for recommendations how to fix and they had me send it to them for repair. Took a few weeks, but it came back good as new and at no charge. I recommend taking a couple photos of the tear and email it to them for their advice.

+1.....ask Warbonnet. I'm not a fan of any tape repair as a permanent fix, even if sewn. The adhesive just tends to break down with time and the edges curl, making a mess. Yes, it's better than duct tape but patch it with the right material, seam seal the edges, and it will be basically good as new.

Tenacious Tape (equal to a roll of cloth patch) is really great stuff to keep around. Small repairs in down sleeping bags, quilts, jackets, and yes even tarps are super easy and will look respectable after.

If my Superfly were damaged I would use Tenacious Tape cut to appropriate size and shape for tear on the inside then seal outside with GE Silicone II thinned with mineral spirit. Brush the thinned Silicon on, then wipe of excess immediately with clean cotton cloth. The silicone permeates the cloth so no visible goop left behind.

I have used Tenacious Tape for dozens of repairs and have been extremely happy with the results

I would contact warbonnet for the repair. I have had issues with my blackbird twice due to my own crazy way I sleep and they repaired it and returned it quickly. They are a great company and took great care of my issues.

I would use the same material of the area by cutting a circle and then use silicone seam sealer to bond it together. That's how I did with my rectangular tarp when there was a hole in it.
