    Eagle creek Columbia River gorge

Going to be a sweet little overnighter. Leaving the Monday after Mother's Day coming back Tuesday. Just a quickie. The windflowers are supposed to be there. We'll see. Unless my wife tells me to just take off mothers day evening then I might change the venue for them to leave me wherever we hike that Sunday. So I could get two night in the hammock. The other option would be wild flower heavy too. Supposed to be. Everyone else s tied up that I ever hike with, and I do like to go alone. This one would be cool to share the experience. I'll record some stuff and make a trip reports if the plan goes good.

Two weekends ago our Scout troop hiked in for an overnighter. Two had their hammocks. My mini-man took his 2-person tent and shared with a friend. Uh-oh they didn't stake out the rainfly and left the ground tarp hanging out. The boys woke up at 3AM soaked. Mini-man is now determined to figure out how to hang his own hammock/tarp when I can not be around to help.

I understand they found two sets of tree straps while on this hike.

    Have a great hike!

Yeah it's a spectacular hike. Forecast is for rain. No surprise whenever I plan something since last November. It has rained. Oh well. There is no vistas so the rain and week day should limit the foot traffic.

Cozy in the hammock with rain on the tarp, smell of the wet earth and the woods, that's a great way to spend a night. Have fun!

Usually bring my dog when I go solo but there is so many sheer cliff faces that dogs always fall off every year. Don't want that. Guess I'll have to pack the food

I actually saw that once. A dog disappeared before my eyes there. It was terrible. A boy and a dad had their dog and were walking ahead of my friend and I and few miles in on the trail. We were ascending, to our right was a very steep, nearly cliff like hill.
A large off leash dog came barreling down the trail barking and the little dog bolted off down the incline and promptly disappeared. We helped the boy and dad who were looking for the dog for a while. When we left the boy was in tears. I hope they found their dog, but it was pretty bleak.

Whoa. Yeah. Nice of you to lend a hand. Too bad. Well we'll hold out for the pooch. That solidifies it for me. Too bad you couldn't have joined me.

Ironfish77 and I have been a loose plan to leave late this afternoon for a quick get-a-way. Maybe the gorge or Mt Hood National Forest. Going to be beautiful.

I take my dog, however, I so not let her run the trail here in the NW. Too many people with untrained, agressive dogs. Plus there are a lot of dangers for exuberant off leash dogs. My big dog stays close for her safety (she resembles a bear and sounds like one). My other dog looks like a rodent, it woyld be a snack to a raptor or other hungry critter.

Dogs are cool. I'd bring mine but don't want something bad to happen there. It does every year.

Well, I was joined by hammock forum's own: Mucho Gusto.
It was an overnighter for the enthusiastic. Unreal sights. I will be making a trip report- fo- sho!!!!!!
Mucho gusto and I tried out our hex tarp(s) for some classic PNW rainstorms, and we did our thing. TR coming.
