Anyone ever sent a hammock to Insect Shield for treatment?

I was looking at the permethrin thread and wondered if anyone has sent their hammock (or clothes for that matter) to Insect Shield for treatment?

I was looking on their website and it looks like a pretty good deal if it works. They will send you pre-paid mailing envelopes that you can use to send them up to 8 pieces of clothing that they will treat and return to you for $64.95. This includes postage both ways and the treatment itself.

Website specifies clothing only but I called and asked if I could send a hammock or bug net as one of the 8 pieces and they said yes.

This treatment is supposed to last for 70 washings, so I asked them if I washed the items 7 times a year would it last 10 years and she said it would. If true this would be much better than me doing it myself, as it would basically be a lifetime treatment for a hammock or bug net.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone on here had used them and could offer an opinion.

I would be very surprised if it lasted 5 years, but even then it seems like a good deal

Yea, I'm skeptical if it will last anywhere near as long as they state.

Yeah, me too which is why I called back and they confirmed it. I asked if it would last 20 years and they said no but it would last 10 years. Who knows? Anyway, as stated above if it only lasts 5 years that's plenty good enough for me.

    Skeptical... scmeptical...
Whose trail clothes last ten years anyway?
That's a mess of clothes treated for the price... and no muss, no fuss.

[the only problem that I can see is that we may have to wait two or three years for the update/review to find out how long the treatment lasts...]

I'm gonna do it later today, they said turnaround is about 10-14 days.

The packet to me will go out tomorrow, and I should get it by Friday. I will send the clothes back to them so they should get them on Tuesday (Maybe Monday). It will take them 3 days to treat, then ship back to me via Fed Ex ground so hopefully I should get hem back by the following Monday.

Not sure of the etiqutte of adding to older threads, but I'm curious how folks feel about the efficacy of insect shield versus spray- on method.

Today I found a deer tick crawling on my arm as I was driving. Curious, I held on to the tick until I could stop and pull over in the nearest town. I went back into the trunk and put the tick onto my brand new bug-out gaiters treated with Insect Shield. It seemed to just crawl around happily. I guess I was expecting something more dramatic (think ticks thrown onto a hot roof of your car in the middle of July... if you haven't tried it yet, you really must).

Maybe the effect takes longer than I'm thinking? Other folks I've known that have used the spray method say it's great until it rains, and then it really only lasts a couple of days.

In any case, I'm done with ticks, and ready to go with chemical intervention.

I'm confused. Both the hammocks I own have integrated mosquito netting?

Isn't what you're talking about basically the equivalent of spraying your closed screen doors with permethrin to keep the 'squiters out of your house? Aren't all those chemicals bad for you?
