    Hanging in the Chiricahua Mountains

I lived in Tucson for a number of years when I was younger, in much better shape, but not nearly as handsome. Just ask my wife. I camped in various places on Mount Lemmon every year, but I'd never gotten out to some of the lesser known places in Southern Arizona.

So when kwpapke suggested we meet FJRPilot on the figurative halfway (from Texas), I jumped on it and so did everyone else.

Here is a terrific video put together by kwpapke on the area, should you be interested in checking it out. Oh, and by the way, be sure to like, share and subscribe!!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUWu23sXcAE

This is a beautiful area. An oasis in the middle of the desert, riparian corridors, tall mature trees, deer, wild turkeys, birds and four leggers of all kinds. Moving water is probably my favorite thing on earth, so being able to set up right next to a moving stream in the Sycamore campground alone made the trip worth it.

Then there was the food. This was THE most foodie outdoors excursion I've ever been on. Gourmet, start to finish. The generosity, hospitality, stories and comedy shared by the group will set the bar crazy high for future outings.

    In attendance:
    Artful
    Redfish
    kwpapke
    catastrophedude
    FJRPilot and his wife Ginny
Mogollon Monster and his family of world famous entertainers (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTZ...yAgTki2fpaI3Kg) Like, share and subscribe!

I've said enough ... I'll let the other hangers share their thoughts and pics. Enjoy!

I grew up in Safford, AZ and spent a lot of time hunting and camping in the Chiricachua's. Coatimundi's will raid your pack as well. Came upon a hikers campsite who was away and a coatimundi was going through his pack in the Chiricahua's.

I just wanted to thank both kwpapke for suggesting the location and MrBunzy for taking the lead in getting folks to attend. Redfish for the green chili cheeseburgers, Artful for the bacon wrapped brats, Mogollon Monster for the Artesian bread, MrBunzy for the delicious Coffee, Catastrophedude for the awesome Fajitas and kwpapke for the smoked brisket and apple cake (we need 2 more for October please ). It was great to see arczeneb and a pleasure to meet Max, Addey and Alison.

What a great hang. The weather was almost perfect, the food was outstanding and I'm really looking forward to the October hang up on the Rim to visit with everyone again.

Attached are some photos, hopefully others will do the same. Arizona is a great hanging state with lots of options that will suit anyone's style. Check out kwpapkes great video that MrBunzy linked too, it will give you a feel for all the options available if you visit the "Cherry Cows"... Kurt has lots of other videos about hiking Arizona locations, I highly recommend them.

    See you all in October!

The campsite is great - the people even better - and the food beyond compare.

A great trip was had by all and I can't wait to see you all at the next group hang and hopefully see some new faces as well. Everyone was super friendly and I loved getting to try out some setups I've never seen in person before. The only downside is now I want a bridge hammock too and I'm going to bug FJRpilot for help once I decide on materials.

He'll hear from me as well! RSBTR just posted up some remnants on their site. I picked up 8 yards of 1.7 Robic XL in Vader Blue for $50 shipped.

I'll be in a new hammock of one kind or another by October.

Was good to meet you Catastrophedude.

I'm sorry I missed this hang. Just too much going on last week. I'll be at the next one for sure. I'm kinda thinking we need a few "get togethers" every once in a while even if it's just a couple of folks at a time! Looked like a blast there, guys!

Thanks Artful and Catastrophe for humoring me by going on my hikes. Good times! Yeah, the food was **** good at this hang - thanks to everyone who brought food and/or cooking gear. The only thing we were missing was some good cigars - I just plain forgot.

It's tough for the long-distance travelers to make more than 2/year, but that doesn't stop us Phoenix/Tucson folks from getting together informally more often. It's just not that far of a drive.

    See ya in October!
