Another option is to buy a Loco Libre Gear Operator Series Summer Under Quilt,

    and save some weight.

Plus they are on sale right now.

I tried that yesterday when I had some time to fool around with it. I did get it off to the side, but I didn't feel real comfortable doing it and won't try it again. It felt like I was stretching/stressing the fabric. I also tried making a loop from paracord tied to the foot end suspension to drop the quilt a bit. I didn't have much time to lay like that, but I think it helped. One problem I foresee with that is if I get cool during the night I'll have to get out of the hammock to tighten up the quilt. If I had a Phoenix I can push it to the side and then pull it back if I get cool.

I mostly vent by adjusting my top insulation, and leave the under quilt pretty much as it is. However, I do lots of times in the summer, start the night with the UQ pulled off to the side and snap it back in the place want to cool off, usually only 20 or 30 minutes later. you won't be able to do that with the wooki, but you will with the Phoenix (and essentially every other underquilt)

try cooling off with adjusting your top insulation this next trip and if that doesn't work maybe drop the 90 bucks for a summer quit.
Ive found i ball up a bit when its cold, shorter quilt doesnt bother me at all. Pack slippers help as well and multipurpose.

i think we all instinctively go to the fetal position when we get cold. If i'm balled up in the hammock too long, i start to really feel the need to stretch out my legs!! I stopped getting cold in my hammock tho

if you get cold often then i'd think you'd want to stop getting cold!?

I'm just saying I make my own hammocks (sheltowee hammocks - integrated insulation) and have got it pretty well dialed in at this point.

btw, i get the same feeling about stretching out my legs in bed... sometimes the dog likes to jump up and take my legs' spot in the night!

Vent a Wooki or buy HG Econ 40 Phoenix?

oh, sorry. just miss interpreted this ^^

I guess i read 'balling up a bit when YOUR cold' instead of 'balling up a bit when ITS cold'... my B

Back on topic, the OP seemed to have a handle on his situation: can't really vent his UQ, it wasn't designed for it.

Ordered an Econ Phoenix 40 charcoal/black today!! I'll be using it with my Burrow 20 topquilt. My Burrow has the snapped footbox so I can unsnap it and use as a blanket or take it off and put it on my Blackbird shelf if I don't need it.
