Vent a Wooki or buy HG Econ 40 Phoenix?

I have a WBBB XLC with a Wooki 3 season UQ. I am going on a backpacking trip in the Linville Gorge in mid-June. I am a relative newbie when it comes to hammocks and underquilts, so I have a question. Should I try to lower my Wooki to create a gap between the UQ and hammock or should I buy a HG Econ Phoenix 40 to use in warmer temps?

    Thanks!

I would experiment with adding shock cord to the Wooki to drop it way down for summer use or I would go for more like a 50° quilt or make your own as you will most likely hardly need bottom insulation in the summer months. The Wooki is hard to vent to that level without adding a lot of shock cord and even then it's still close enough to be warm.

When summer camping, I rig my UQ so that I can pull it over to one side during warmer nights. Like TrailSlugs idea of dipping it down.

In the summer I like to switch to my 30L backpack. So I don't have the space in this pack for a full length UQ.

My vote would be to have both if you can afford it.

Last summer on a particularly hot night I didn't "vent" my uq per se I pushed it off to one side so that it was parallel to my hammock not under it. When I was finally cool enough to need something I just reached out and pulled it back under me, mission accomplished, cost= $0. I'm willing to be a wookie could work similarly.
    Good luck,

This is kinda what I was getting at. I can afford it, but do I really NEED it? I don't want a closet full of stuff I don't really need. I do think I want it, though. But I don't have enough experience to know! What do y'all think?

that won't likely work without modification. The wooki isn't designed to be pulled off to the side with someone in the Hammock... there's just not any quilt suspension or enough fabric to allow it.

The phoenix should lighten your load and increase your backspace for sure. You may miss not having insulation below your feet, though.

I mostly vent by adjusting my top insulation, and leave the under quilt pretty much as it is. However, I do lots of times in the summer, start the night with the UQ pulled off to the side and snap it back in the place want to cool off, usually only 20 or 30 minutes later. you won't be able to do that with the wooki, but you will with the Phoenix (and essentially every other underquilt)

try cooling off with adjusting your top insulation this next trip and if that doesn't work maybe drop the 90 bucks for a summer quit.

I've had a Phoenix 40 for the past year and it's perfect for SoCal weather. At the Econ price, I say go for it. Bonus for the smaller volume and about 7 oz lighter. For warmer weather, I rarely need a pad under my feet.
