I had a pair of Army surplus woolen socks that rather quickly developed holes in the bottom. A couple weeks ago, that would have earned them a trip to the trashcan. However, having recently learned enough to run a straight stitch, I turned one inside out, ran a quick seam and clipped off the foot portion. I now have a nice sock for my Nalgene bottle for those cold nights in the hammie.
