That's a good point. I will definitely benefit from seeing everyone's set up. Also doughnuts in the wild? That sounds like a good time to me. I hope we both can make it as well.

Also, I read your intro and wanted to say that I initially spent many nights using my sleeping bag as insulation. I zipped it around the hammock like a burrito and cinched the head end. It was not as comfortable as using an underquilt because you can't lie on a good diagonal, but I definitely slept warmer than I would have if I'd had it inside the hammock. I have a hybrid bag, so the foot end is not as narrow as a mummy but also not rectangular. I don't know how well a mummy bag would work.
I'm glad to hear so much praise for this group! Thank you for the wonderful advice. I think I'm going to experiment with my setup sometime next week. I believe my family gear stash may have a hybrid bag as well. I'll have it try it out. Also, I have an awesome mother who is contributing to my new hammock addiction. She ordered a top quilt from UGQ and a new hammock that comes with a bug net and tarp as a birthday gift for me. It will be some time before I get it, but I feel truly blessed and I'm super excited. Hopefully both will come before the fall, but I definitely want to go out before they arrive, and your idea sounds very promising.

As a first timer with the group last weekend, and not knowing what to expect, I highly recommend it.
it was a great time meeting new people, face to face, trying not to overeat with the prodigious amount of food prepared, and got to look at many versions of hammocks and great ideas to improve/upgrade.
Tim and others made me feel very welcome, and I look forward to this next hang!
    Hope to meet you there!

You don't have to wait until the fall either. There are other hangs during the summer that are just as much fun and many of the same folks. The Harold Hang may be a good one for you. I don't know where you are in NH but if you are Southern NH it would be fairly close for you. I as a woman also went alone to my first official hang a year ago this spring and same here, was welcomed immediately. Lots of fun. Keep checking out the site for trips planned and for info on all things hammock. and Welcome! Hope to see you at a hang.

Sounds great! Thank you, Tim! I just got the Friday approved from work so I'll definitely make it. I've never been to Mohawk State Forest, so I'm really excited to finally check it out!

    Hi Everyone,
Is this the Mohawk State Forest in Goshen, CT?
I am a newbie to hammock camping...fun fiddling around....and would love to attend and meet like minded folks!
I do a lot of fly fishing in Chesterfield gorge and I believe I know where the scout camp is.
Either way, looking forward to this!
    Thanks Everyone!
