How much thread do I need for three 11' hammocks?

I'm making three 11' gathered end hammocks out of three slightly different materials (each person has different weight needs). I'm going to be getting the Gutermann MARA 50 thread from RipstopByTheRoll but I don't know how much I should get...Any advice? How much of a project can one roll do?

The link to the thread shows that you get 765 yards, you won't need to worry about running out for a loooong time. It really depends on which type of stitch you set your injector to use and how many rows of stitching you do at each end of the hammocks.

Those rolls will get you a long way in diy projects. You most likely will even be able to get some stuff sacks, organizers, quilts and possibly tarps done too. All though when you get that far, it's likely you'll start getting other rolls to individual projects to better suit the occupants taste.

And be careful, that diy hole is pretty deep, once you fall into it, you may never recover.

One roll is plenty. I wouldn't recommend Mara 50, though. Mara 70 is strong enough, and it's already a very big thread. I didn't like using it with the thinner fabrics, that's why I have switched to Tera 60 for the channel seams and Tera 80 for everything else.

The reason I was looking at Mara 50 is that I weigh 275 and my hammock is going to be made out of 1.7oz ROBIC XL Hybrid ripstop. Will Mara 70 still work for that?

I believe that a strong thread like Mara 70 is already overkill; I can't remember ever reading about a hammock where the threads failed. It's always the fabric that blows. If you do 3 rows of stitches for the channels with Mara 70, that should be more than strong enough. But you could always start a new thread, asking if anybody ever had a thread failure. I might learn something new

If you still want to go with a super strong thread, consider the Tera-line of Gütermann. It's a stronger but thinner thread and should be easier to sew.

350 lbs and i use the standard (aka mara 70) thread, somebody posted that they use mara 100 or 120 for a lot of stuff. If it makes you feel safe us mara 50. Thats my thoughts on it.
