Pondering a DYI hammock of my own

I have the bug now so thought I'd like to make my own hammock from 1.9 ripstop nylon. I have a commercial one at present that is about 10 feet long x 5 feet wide, I'm a big guy so if I can I'd like to go about 11 long and 6 or 7 feet (or more) on the width. I'm soliciting ideas for how to do this.

Most of the fabric I've seen is 60 inches wide so, can I just double up and sew a couple of pieces side to side, for the body of the hammock, does that create an irritating seam in the center? Another idea I'm thinking is to use a 60 inch bit in the center and tack on two 12 inch pieces on each side of it. I guess I could use different colors then for a cool two tone effect.

Any suggestions or a link to someone else's success story? There is so much information here that even a search takes forever to sort through. Thanks for your help.

I would attach a strip to either side to get the width you want. I have something similar this hammock (http://jellyfishreport.blogspot.com/...otbox.html?m=1) and I also did it on my super nova. Both have worked great.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

I did something similar to this, I had 4ft wide ripstop nylon that I sewed 6in strips on either side to make it wider. It worked, but the seams didn't stretch or bend as much as the rest of the hammock. It wasn't anything terrible, but I could always feel them under me.

Though it may seem counter intuitive, what has made my more recent hammocks feel wider has been adding knotty mods. It helps keep your feet and head from popping out over the edge of the hammock so you can utilize every inch of the width you have.

You can use XL wide fabrics from RBTR
    https://ripstopbytheroll.com/collect...l-wide-fabrics
which are all 72" wide instead of 60"

If you add strips to the sides of 60" fabric, you could stitch them with a zigzag stitch so that they can stretch with the fabric.

+1 on the XL wide fabrics. I have never found a hammock wider the my own height to be "more" comfortable and I don't like to lie on seams. That said I have never tried stitching side panels, they may work just fine.

Extra wide fabric and a stretch stitch sounds like an excellent plan.

I don't think you'd want it any wider than the xl fabrics. To much floppy material with the excess.

I did add Knotty mods to my hammock, one where my feet go, one at my head, to thwart floppy side syndrome.
