    Descender ring on continuous loop

How much stronger would it be to splice a descender ring on a continuous loop vs. attaching one using a larkshead? In other words, how much does the larkshead derate the loop?

    Descender ring on continuous loop

A splice made to correct specifications would be stronger than a larkshead. But is not a larkshead strong enough for your hammock? And will you not be losing modularity, now that the splice is kinda stuck on descender ring? Do it up and let us know if it's working. At least if it's spliced together, this might reduce chances of losing small parts of suspension. Just guessing time and a half stronger--150 percent??
Good luck, Spaceman--having fun with suspensions and trying new ideas! Everything we have was a new idea once...
A continuous loop spliced onto descender ring might not be any stronger than a continuous loop attached with larkshead on ring--here's why--I'm guessing again---if your continuous loop is bent or forms a tight angle on ring or at its other end as it attaches to other parts of your suspension as sharp an angle as larkshead you are replacing; then your continuous loop will be derated in strength by the same amount.
Part of fun of hammocking is customizing your own suspension! I say--Do it up!

Might want to do what I did and get the Omega Pacific descender rings from REI. They're really fat and smooth and I feel like they stress my continuous loops far less than a smaller gauge ring would. They're way stronger too.

FWIW,I've been hanging on a 1/8" Dutch Amsteel CL with two Rei Descender rings and straps with slippery hitches.Uber fast put up and take down.No problems but I weighed in at 146 this morning.

That said,I'm planning to drop off one ring, add a dog bone to the ring which will attach to either a Dutch Spider or a whoopie sling with a Dutch biner and attach other end of whoopie to Spider for longer reach.

I like Dutch bling, but I can quit anytime I want to!
