I got the chance to do a quick overnight trip near my house, so I grabbed the hound and we set out. I started out trying to hike a very, very old trail, but the brush / blowdowns and lack of trail made me change my mind. I really wanted to test out some new gear and new configurations for my setup. We found a nice spot and set up camp.
I got my first underquilt this past winter and this was my 2nd time using it. I was kind of on the fence about weather I needed it or not, because I have always been fine just using a pad. This time, along with my under quilt I took a lighter sleeping bag to see if I could save some weight and get the bags to pack a little smaller. I figured, even if I got cold, I could make it for one night. After this trip and the one we just got back from (video coming in a couple weeks), I am sold. The setup was so warm I was blown away. Thanks to Shug's videos I felt like a pro setting it up even though it was just my 2nd time. No gaps at all, pure warmth.
After that great night, I was able to jump on an old ATV trail for the walk out. The sun was shinning and all was right with the world.
Thanks for watching!
