Sometime in the past year, I made the switch from using Dutch buckles to Warbonnet-style triangular cinch buckles. While I find this significantly improved the ease of adjustment, I've really been missing the Dutch buckles' ingenious built-in strap management. I've since tried a couple different approaches (shock cord loops, plastic webbing dominators, etc), but nothing approached the simple elegance and can't-lose-this-if-you-tried functionality I was hoping to get back to.
This week, I was playing around with some new polyester straps and I think I've stumbled upon my perfect solution. All I did was take about 6-8" of double-sided velcro wrap and stitched it onto my straps a few inches from the loop. When I wrap the straps up, I've got the perfect thing on hand to keep them nice and tidy. When the strap is deployed, the velcro can wrap around itself and nothing is left dangling. As a extra perk, the weight cost is negligible--both pieces of velcro together weigh less than 1/10 of an ounce. It's entirely possible I'm not the first person to try this solution, but I'm quite pleased with it all the same.
