    Thumbs up Terrific Tadpoles!

If anyone is wondering about a great starter tarp, consider the Tadpole!

We had a wonderful time @ the Mississippi Blackjack Hang this weekend, but RAIN, it did. I knew I liked my Tadpole, but had never subjected it to thunderous storms, and my sister had never ever slept in the rain under any tarp. We both sleep in ENOs, and I realize they are on the shorter side as hammocks go, so ymmv. Two nights of precipitation. Two dry hammocks. Two terrific Tadpoles. Easy to use. Lightweight for when I use mine in my pack. Pair it with a continuous ridgeline and a mesh sleeve and it's so easy.

    Two thumbs up

+1, I've got a Tadpole and it is a great tarp. If you are expecting very high winds you will want to pitch it low, as it doesn't have as much coverage as some tarps, but it is fine piece of gear.
    Thanks,

So I'm just curious as to why the tadpole is usually referred to as a "starter", "beginner", or "my first tarp"? What features are people looking for when they move on to their next ("non-starter") tarp? Thanks.

    Terrific Tadpoles!

people tend to want doors or more pull outs or lighter fabric. Those tarps cost closer to 150 or more depending on how many options you want.

The tadpole is everything you'd need for most trips. Perfect for normal weather conditions and above freezing temperatures.

Love my Tadpole. Light and durable with the right amount of coverage. With pull-outs and pole kit, it's very roomy. I later got the door kit, which I've used occasionally in very old weather. I feel no need for moving to another tarp.

With a set of snake skins, I'm all set.

I sorta wish I had the corner pockets option to hold tie-out lines, but it's no big deal to roll the corners up around the lines as the tarp goes into the snake skins.

I like to permanently attach my guy lines to my stakes. I have Dutch fleaz On the four corners of my tadpole. It slides into my snake skins very easily.
