Trips with non-stop rain (any pointers?)

My buddies and I are heading out for a backpacking trip tonight. We have been watching the weather forecast for days, hoping it will cooperate with us and our plans. Nope. It looks like we'll be setting up camp tonight in the rain, sleeping in the rain, hiking in the rain and more camping in the rain. All with temps ranging from low 40's to mid 50's. The only day that looks good is when we get back to the car (it is supposed to be beautiful 60's and sunny).

I'm not a noob to camping in the rain. I'm prepared for wet and cold. I am just curious of others experiences and light bulb moments from them, to make this trip in anyway improved. Thanks.

Not a whole lot you can do other than resign yourself to being wet. Most of the time anyway.

Set up your tarp first thing and take it down as the last step of packing up, storing it on the outside of your pack for quick access for breaks, etc. Definitely bring a trash/contractor/compactor bag or two to keep quilts and clothes dry in your backpack. A dry change of clothes is a must, obviously, but you'll have wet feet unless you bring camp shoes and only really use them under the tarps.

Sad the weather won't be more forgiving, but you never know, the forecast could be wrong and the wet might let up.
The want of wandering, and a welcomed whimsy.

I've spent an entire week, in Algonquin, with nothing but rain on more than one occasion.
I bring an extra tarp to g an out in at camp/break times.
I like the snake skins on my hammock tarp for easier deployment.
Waterproof socks work for me. Yes, you'll sweat more but still more comfy than putting your feet in cold wet boots.

There was a thread recently where someone posted a pic showing a separate tarp, so we got talking about that. He set it up to have a dry place to sit while enjoying a fire, which is still possible unless you're getting blasted with heavy rain. I thought that was a great idea for a ~6oz penalty (depending on size). You certainly don't want to use your good hammock tarp near all the sparks and smoke.

Being last minute, you can pick up a cheap poly 6x9 tarp for about $5 plus some cordage.

I spent 5 days on the Ozark Trail last year with rain the first 3. Best part of all the rain?? I didn't have to carry a lot of water. When my water bottle got low, just stop and filter some more.

Yes. I have packed a 2nd tarp, just for some cover to hang out around the fire.

That a pretty cool rain too. To sugar coat it, it's nice to have an excuse to sit around and do nothing...unless you have a strict plan/miles per day.

What kind of second tarp are you taking? I'm still debating one for solo trips.

    The "Yuedge."

Normally this tarp is put into use on day hikes, overnights when hiking limited miles, or anytime I don't want to risk fire proximity to my WB Mamajamba. But, after this weekend, I'm contemplating getting another silnylon tarp for a group tarp. The yuedge is not very lightweight.

Just embrace the "suck" and try to find the bright spots in the trip. They all can't be good trips
