Tree strap - just a loop in the webbing?

Been doing it that way for nearly 8 years. Works just fine and if your mindful of your gear in set up and tear down your good to go. Like mentioned slide them around so the running leg coming out comes off the tree as strait as possible. The main time I prefer carabiners is webbing based suspension where you are using rings or buckles....a carabiner will save you the time of unthreading and re-threading the webbing from the buckles each time.

Yeah, I'm intending on rings to tie the other end of the strap to the hammock, and without a biner or clip I will have to rethread each time. I'll have to try it each way and see if the weight savings is worth the extra time.

I have use straps around a tree like that many many times with my Hennessy set up. Just bought some adutchable clips to eliminate having to thread through the loops--not that that changes exerted effort much but I'm experimenting and I like Dutch's products

I hang mine this way and have for a couple of years now. It actually never occurred to me to use a carabiner there instead of just running one end through the loop until I saw this thread. I suppose I understand the convenience factor of the carabiner but it's not exactly difficult to just loop it through and then you have less stuff to carry. Also I would think this is easier on the tree as there's no carabiner rubbing up against the bark, just the fabric of the strap.
