Hi guys, how are your tarps holding up? I'm about to embark on my own tarp journey using the 0.93 membrane sil poly and just wanted to check I've understood this right. My plan is to roll 3/8 grosgrain inside the rolled hem with it extending a few inches either side of the tie out point. Then after the hemming is finished, the tie out loop is stitched to the hem through that grograins. Does that sound correct?

If you have any close up photos of your tie outs I'd really appreciate you posting them so I can see the stitching etc.

Also, any clues on how cowboy made tie outs to accept the center pole mod? I'm thinking simple twist in the webbing could be enough to form a pocket for the pole end but I'm curious how you did it.

Thank you all so much for posting all your ideas and experience, it's really helped me with my plans.

Well you are right. Holds for now, but I had an accident with one of the tarps, with very strong wind hit, all the hem was tore apart. Maybe a fabric defect, or too short stitch, dont know. But other 5 tarps made so far hold well.

dont have any closeup picture, but there is nothing to see anyway

Thank you for the confirmation and sorry to hear about the damage. I was wondering about stitch size, I'll see if RSBTR have any advice on that.

I had the stitch too short I think, not a good machine, slippery material. 0,5cm would be great for that purpose, as the stitching is any good on this material. But as I say, it holds in these conditions

Hi Infrastellar, in the two woodland photos, do you remember what are the fabric colours are called? They look really nice and seem to blend in well. Thanks.

Obviously, these are not sewn into the hem, but this tarp is 5 years old now and has been through some serious winds with no problems.

Brilliant thank you for the photos! What reinforcement (if any) did you do at the ridgeline tie out? I'm doing a winter tarp (hex plus doors) and wondering about the tension between the ridgeline tie out and the corner tie out. With a std hex, that line of tension is a seam but when you add the doors it's not, and I'm wondering if reinforcement is needed there.

I made my tarps with these instructions. Scroll through to see the corners. They have held great for years.

I do my ridgelines a little different. I roll a 3/8" grosgain into the ridgeline and just extend that out for the connection point.

In that particular tarp, I added a rolled 'hem' as if the doors were added later. My thoughts were for adding strength. Not really sure if that was needed as I've made some since then without the added 'hem' and they are doing just fine as well.
