That is true. It's a good thing it's not common in humans. Don't read about that parasite and what it will do to you if you are squeamish.

However, my first jungle hammock, new Korean war surplus, when I was about 15, was destroyed in the one night I left it empty in my woods by the house, by a raccoon who tore it to pieces, way beyond repair. They were fine hammocks for their day.

Invite the snakes. You need something to eat all the spiders.

More than likely they will sense you through the straps and crawl off. Of course if it's a really big one it will probably eat you hammock and all.

I thought the swallow was the mascot of Planned Parenthood.

Important note: This could cause your suspension to fail. See the following video for more details. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJZZNHekEQw
This only works if you speak the incantation in parseltongue.

I'm glad you brought this up. Now having a water mocassin drop in the canoe with me pales by comparison.

I really don't fear any wildlife creature, but I do have a healthy respect for bears, snakes and anything else that acts aggressive or rabid. I have noticed that both bears and snakes normally are cool if you back off. I saw a individual who thought he was bad enough to catch a snake that was just off the trail. Well short version Snake 1, DA 0. We got him doctored up the best we could and met the Rescue Squad at the trail head/road access.
