    Introducing my self

My name is Bruce Ferguson. I am retired now from So. Calif. Edison after 42 year. I am 71 now. In the old days used to be called Goose. My son has gotten me interested in backpacking. "hey old man, off your butt let's go" That was 2 years ago, now I have started looking at hammock camping and the more I see the more interested I get. I got a Blackbird XLC and I am looking at setting up in the back yard. I am using a 4x6 away from the tree. I assume the 4 inch edge would face the other tree and that is the side the hammock would hang on. Am I wrong? almost forgot, I live in the City of Orange in Orange County California. He is a tent guy and I get poo pooed every time I talk hammocks, But you don't know till you try. Nice to meet everyone and I am learning a lot thanks to this place and Youtube.

Hello from Alabama! You can chuckle every time you get a great night's sleep and wake up without feeling like you were hit by a truck! Wish I could help with your post question, but someone else will have the knowledge about that. Enjoy your hammock!

Welcome to Hammock Forums Goose. It's his loss if he chooses to sleep in the rocks. Only us that sleep about Terra Firma understand and they too will be enlightened some day

Hello Goose, and welcome to the forums from Marietta GA. If I understood your description correctly, it sounds like you're doing it right with the 4x6. Happy hanging!

Welcome to the forum from Central Ga.Be glad you have a son that will go with you.All I have is a son-in-law who is a golfer and two grandsons that are just out of diapers. My bet is that if you let him try your hammock sometime it won't be long before he is a convert to hanging. As long as you wrap your strap around the 4x6 a time or two I would think you're good to go.

Tenters poo-pooing hammocks, really?? Ha, that's why HF exists. You're a rebel! Guess we all are at heart. Happy hanging, and welcome!
