    Ridgeline Organizer Questions

I just picked up some ripstop nylon from Jo Annes for my first DIY project.

    I have some questions:

    1. What is preferred for a organizer as far as velcro or sewn channel for attaching? I can see the benefits of velcro for easy to take off, but it adds weight and may potentially snag my hammock or bug net.

    2. Is there a specific type of thread used for this nylon?

I have zero knowledge on sewing so any tips are appreciated!

    Thanks

Polyester thread for any outdoor products. And I don't take mine off if I don't want it above me I'll push it over my feet and it never bothers me. And mine is so small it stuffs in that bishop bag with everything else.

I would suggest a design that has the hole through the middle. I use that alot, and not so much the pockets on the side.

I tried several with velcro or grosgrain loops at the ends. I don't like them. I like the sewn channel type. Reason for me is that the sewn channel supports the organizer all along it. I often have an IPOD, Glasses, my meds and such in the RLO (Organizer). That drags it down in the middle if it is only the loops at the ends or the velcro. I just have an organizer for each hammock now. It is easy to pull the Ridge Line out of the gathered end, slide on the RLO and push the RL back thru the gathered and and secure it again.

My personal preference is to put loops on the corners then tie through with prussik knot on the ridgeline. My current set up is to hang pockets near my head for ipod/headlamp but then a triangular pocket at my feet. The triangular pocket is just big enough for a sweater or ???

    Polyester thread, this organizer:

Note: I made it out of one piece of mesh, like suggested in post #3. Made it little longer too.

I don't see a need to remove it, and I keep it light as can be without tieouts, cord, other. It slides out of the way when I need to.

There are many, many styles of ridge line organizer out there, but if you make your own you can copy your favorite features from all the cottage vendor models and, perhaps more importantly, size the organizer and all its pockets to suit the specific items with which you like to hang.

As for ridge line attachment options, there are also many styles from which to choose. My favorite RLO is by Hammock Gear and uses five Velcro tabs about 2" long folded over the RL, secure but easy to mount and remove, and it slides from one end of the hammock to the other.

The other versatile style I fancy currently is the mini gear hammock suspended from the RL a la Dream Hammock.

Good options. Going to my parents next weekend so my mom can help. I'll see what she thinks she can do. Thanks

I used mesh and velcro. Never had a snag. Polyester thread.
Move it from hammock to hammock. It looks happy.
