    First Homemade Hammock

I can't believe I did it! My first homemade hammock, a GE with 1.7 oz ROBIC XL Hybrid ripstop nylon from Ripstopbytheroll. Even though it's basic with simple stitching involved, I had to learn the sewing machine also. Thank goodness for YouTube.

The 1.7 ROBIC material has a great feel and is very lightweight. I'm in love with this fabric and think it would be excellent for a backpacking hammock.

RTBTR's video instruction was so helpful. Big thanks to them for clear instruction and the fab material.

Congrats. It is a great feeling. This will not be your last project. The Hybrid Robic 1.7 is a fantastic fabric.

    Awesome!
It is such a good feeling to make something cool.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

I'm trying to decide if I want to jump into the DIY game. Have never touched a sewe... uhh, thread injector. Is there a beginner's kit that has the basic tools and supplies (scissors, pins, seam ripper, etc.)? It looks like just getting the basics is an experience in itself.

Congratulations. Hanging in a hammock that you made from scratch is very rewarding, and the first one you make always feels special. (I still use my first DIY whenever I can.)

The 1.7 oz ROBIC XL is a great choice for fabric. It's as close as I have come to finding a one-size-fits-all all-purpose hammock body material. It has relatively light weight, incredible strength for single-layer builds, a nice feel, extra width if required, and true ease of sewing.

    Thanks everybody, for the encouragement!

It's with some trepidation I post this pic, looks like I can swim in this hammock, and the job is rank amateur, but I like it. Thanks for asking TrailSlug and FugiBilly, I wouldn't have posted the pic otherwise.

Skater, do it! It's such a kick. I don't have any mechanical skills or much patience, and yeah, operating a sewing machine was something I dreaded, after many sewing failures over the years...including having separate three sets of lessons, man that's hard to admit.

I was so encouraged I trotted over to Jellyfish's YouTube hammock video. The instruction and demo is excellent, but way beyond me, so I'm sticking with utter simplicity.

The real jewel is discovering the material.
