Need advice before the fence goes in, tomorrow...........

I am having a chain link fence go in tomorrow. I asked them to put in 3 extra posts, 10 ft long, 2' deep and 8 foot above ground, so that 1-3 people could hang at the same time. I think I will have them 15-16' apart, in shape of triangle.
I am hoping the posts they use, from a chain link fence buried in cement will be ok. If not, I need to cancel the order.

    Thanks!!!

This might not hold?!?!? Good luck and show pictures regardless of results--thanks
If it was me--maybe three twelve foot poles 6 inches by 6 inches about 4 feet into ground held with concrete?!?!? Not sure, good luck!
I agree with Trail Slug and zukiguy--a sturdy cross bar spanning the top like a ridge pole will go a long way in making your rig stronger. And Shug's advice comes from positive experience!

That's not going to be deep enough. 3 feet deep and 7 feet above would be better but still iffy.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

Maybe you could have your fencers weigh in. I might ask if there is a way to strengthen/reinforce the metal pipe to reduce the risk of bending ie: fill with concrete or drive a piece of re-rod down through the center.

Not my area of expertise just trying to think creatively.

30-35% of the pole should be buried

or at least 30% of the height you expect to apply horizontal force from.....

but yeah, I'd put it at least 3 feet deep

regular galvanized fence posts are not strong enough. as suggested earlier, you need steel tubing, or steel pipe.

There are corner posts, which *might* work, and line posts which won't do at all. I would not gamble my time and money on this...there are better solutions.

As for the triangle arrangement, tarp lines are going to get a little busy in there...I'd like to see it done, just to satisfy my curiosity.

The triangle setup works great but having two hammocks on each pole is WAY too much load for these types of fence posts and do not let them talk you into this unless you put the top connector pole between each pole and then would it be marginally safe.

You can get the top rails in 20' lengths in some places. With a top pole connecting each (3 total) I'd say you'll be OK. My freestanding hammock stand is made from top rail sections and it's holding up just fine. The top pole takes the majority of the compressional load (hammock pulling in on the poles). At that point the poles are just holding up half you weight each (100-ish pounds).

There are different diameter poles. The small regular ones are too weak. Those larger ones (3" dia maybe?) may work if connecting them at the top.
