I have a Hennessey HexFly and the XL snakeskins. They seem way too long??? I have a good 18-24 inches on each end empty - there is no way to get the tarp down in there to gain access to the d rings? Should I cut and sew? Make my own? Ditch these?

Can you not reach in and grab the tarp? If not then I would recommend cutting and sewing.
Your supposed to overlap where they meet in the middle. Keeps the tarp from flopping out and takes up that excess.
