Breathability would definitely be an issue unless only used in the baffles, as others have said, but at that point the weight/cost savings wouldn't be substantial enough, IMO.

The potential for higher fill power is intriguing, but judging from the quilts Enlightened Equipment stocks "of the shelf" - i.e. quilts that were returned in new condition - most customers want 850FP anyway. They offer up to 950 (and at a significant cost increase) for those who absolutely need the lightest gear (I considered this but couldn't justify another ~$80). Plus from what I've read, fill powers above 850 have negligible lofting advantages as the extreme lab conditions used in US ratings cannot be replicated in the field.

I think there is potential for them to develop and offer more advanced and lighter fabrics in the future for a "premium" line, sort of along the lines of larger companies like Outdoor Research who have proprietary fabrics in their ultralight clothing.
The want of wandering, and a welcomed whimsy.

An ounce is a lot for those who are in the 5-7lb (or less) BPW realm (some might call them crazy but HYOH).

My summer base weight is 5 pounds and I know I could shave an ounce or two by switching my quilts to 950 fill power but I care not at this point.

We are currently working on prototyping some premium model quilts utilizing the Argon 67 materials only as well as 950 fill power DWR Grey Goose down. We will keep everyone posted as we get them built! As some suggested, Dyneema (cuben) fiber is a little bit lighter depending on the fabric options, but it does not breath at all, except maybe through the sewing holes. It also doesn't act the same as other nylon fabrics. I've seen some of the old protos laying around in the office that used a Cuben inner. They certainly look awesome, but we'd have to do some rigorous testing to see if it would be a viable option. Stay tuned gram weenies!

    Thanks,

As soon as my shipment of 950 arrives I'll be looking at cloning a certain quiltmaker's design, but with RBTR Membrane10 taffeta (0.66 oz). May show the results if it succeeds.

    That's a Plan

I was telling my daughter just yesterday, how hammocking is exploding and how at least 3 cottage industries have recently moved or are moving to bigger quarters, and hiring. Better awareness of how comfortable hammocking is factors, but repeat business and fierce loyalty occurs because the shopper gets real value and quality. It's very satisfying to buy quality again, it's been a long, long time.

I told her HG specializes in quilts, and just came out with the Econ line, so it makes perfect sense HG plans to expand choices. There's a need for speciality quilts.

Congratulations HG on your business plan, and thank you.
