    Beach hanging

What I want to do is set up a hammock with optional tarp on the beach. Turtledog is my main option. Not sure of the size of rig. I have a 12 Kelty tarp. I am thinking 2x4 ripped down. Not sure of length. Sand is not solid. Assateague Island. Thank you for any input. Spent too many years kin a tent.

I've been thinking the same thing about the Assateague. Might be worth noting that the food poles will support a hammock if you can find a second attachment post. I'd really love to see them allow hammocks, or install hammock stands maybe.

Here's a link to an alternative stand. It seems to be more portable than the turtledog or similar stands, especially if you don't have a large vehicle and space is a premium, and looks pretty simple to construct, although I haven't attempted it yet. It's on my to-do list before my next beach trip.

You'll need to come up with a mod to the original instructions to hang your tarp, though.

Does anyone know of a good hammock camping area on the Gulf Coast? I'd love to camp where I could hear the waves all night.

There are tons of them. This is what I found in Florida, but I am sure there are just as many in Texas.
